Queensland council offers to waive park hire fee to boost inflatable waterpark attraction
In a move to boost tourism, the Livingstone Shire Council has this week offered to waive its full commercial park hire fee for the Waterworld Central attraction in order for it to set up in Yeppoon during the September school holidays.
In order to encourage visits by families and children, local newspaper The Morning Bulletin has reported that the Council has agreed to offer Waterworld Central the opportunity to merely pay a fully refundable $10,000 bond in addition to the site's utility costs, rather than its full commercial park hire fees.
The Waterworld Central inflatable waterpark has operated successfully along Australia’s East Coast over the last two years and the Council hope it will set up at Yeppoon in the Capricornia region of Central Queensland from late September through until early October.
The Morning Bulletin report suggested that a stay of this duration would normally incur a $10,750 hire fee and a charge of $5,491 for utilities. However, the report suggested that uncertainty over community interest and patronage had led the Council to offer to waive its fees to ensure the activity is viable.
Livingstone Shire Mayor Bill Ludwig describing the proposal as an "absolutely fabulous idea" to his fellow Councillors.
Waterworld Central have yet to confirm if they will accept the offer and add Yeppoon to their schedule.
