read moreThe QSport Board has announced the appointment of Tim Klar to the position of Chief Executive.
Klar’s appointment to the role coincides with long-standing Chief Executive Peter Cummiskey OAM, who concludes his leaders of the federation after 25 years.
Klar’s professional background includes time with Queensland Athletics and the Queensland Academy of Sport prior to executive roles with Athletics Australia and Netball Australia over a 10-year period spanning strategy development, participation growth, workforce development, diversity and inclusion initiatives, member engagement and responsibilities a company secretary at Netball Australia and management of its charity arm, the Confident Girls Foundation.
He has led and supported a diverse array of major projects including national program reviews, digital technology procurement, governance reforms and Netball Australia's successful bid to host the 2027 Netball World Cup.
Klar is currently Director of The Kinetica Group, a strategy and data intelligence consultancy working with sporting organisations and governments both in Australia and overseas on projects across sport, active recreation and health and wellbeing domains.
Looking forward to his new role, Klar (pictured) advised “there is a palpable buzz shared by those working in sport in Queensland on the runway to Brisbane 2032 and I'm grateful to the Board of QSport for this opportunity to lead the organisation at a time when the sector can work together to leverage the energy around 2032 to realise important and positive changes.
"QSport is a vital voice in the sector's collective efforts to grow the footprint, capacity and positive impacts of sport. I look forward to working with the sector on the things that underpin this ambition - welcoming and safe spaces in sport for all Queenslanders, building insights and capabilities that short up sustainability, sharing and scaling examples of successful innovation and celebrating the achievements of Queensland's sporting community at all levels from park to podium.
"I have enjoyed sport's many benefits as a participant, coach, administrator and volunteer and see this role as a terrific opportunity to work with our members, partners and allies to ensure these same benefits are available to as many others as possible."
QSport celebrates 30 years
Last month saw QSport acknowledge, celebrate and reflect on 30 years since its formal establishment as the industry peak body for organised sport in Queensland.
Over 80 invited guests from QSport past and present Boards, staff, sponsors and supporters gathered at Allan Border Field in inner Brisbane's Albion for the event, with QSport Chair Ben Callard welcoming Queensland Minister for Sport Stirling Hinchliffe.
Representing over 70 sports, since incorporation on 8th February 1993, membership has more than doubled and Minister Hinchliffe commented on the important role that QSport has played over the years, particularly during 2020 with Covid lockdown of sport and the organisation assisting community sport and government in developing plans to enable sport to return to play.
