read moreCity of Port Phillip has advised that the Port Melbourne Skatepark officially reopened on 11th June in partnership with the Victorian Government with a vibrant community celebration attended by local enthusiasts, professional skaters, and dignitaries.
The event, held at the corner of Swallow and Station Streets, marked the completion of a major upgrade to one of the City of Port Phillip's key recreational assets.
Baseplate and Playce Pty Ltd developed the design which was delivered by Grind Projects Pty Ltd.
The Port Melbourne Skatepark is a valuable community asset, and as one of only two skateparks in the City of Port Phillip and the upgrade has been long awaited. Council anticipates this skatepark will provide a community space for years to come, with generation after generation learning to skate, practicing tricks and kick-flips.
Mayor Crawford opened the event with an official speech following a warm welcome from MC Renton Millar, professional skateboarder and founder of Shredability.
In her address, Mayor Crawford highlighted the importance of the skatepark to the local community and thanked Sport and Recreation Victoria for their $250,000 contribution through the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
The event featured speeches from local representatives including Nina Taylor, Member of Parliament for Albert Park, and Cr Heather Cunsolo from the Port Melbourne Ward. A plaque unveiling and photo opportunity followed, officially declaring the skatepark open.
Attendees enjoyed a skating demonstration and free skate sessions, with giveaways and prizes provided by event sponsor Globe, including skateboards, stickers, and shoe vouchers.
The upgraded skatepark is now open for public use and is expected to be a hub for youth activity, skill development, and community connection for years to come.
