Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) has announced the program for its 20th National Conference, being held in Adelaide from 23rd to 25th October.

The industry body for recreation planners and parks managers, PLA will be holding the conference at the Adelaide Oval, with the conference starting with an opportunity to experience a behind-the-scenes tour of one of the venue before officially being opened by the Lord Mayor of the City of Adelaide.

The redevelopment of the Adelaide Oval, completed in 2014, is credited with transforming the city of Adelaide and the PLA Conference’s theme, ‘Developing a Tool Kit For Change’, echoes the transformation of this impressive sporting venue.

A PLA statement introducing the conference explains “delegates have the opportunity to hear from some of the most exciting speakers in years in a revised format, based on the feedback received from last year’s attendees and the industry.”

After the opening, the statement adds “over the following two days, attendees will choose from more than 50 industry presentations covering everything from planning spaces for communities, managing parks and assets, health and wellbeing, sustainable sport, funding, governance and the emergence of new technologies in the sector.”

Conference highlights will include:

• Over 50 presentations, workshops and panel discussions
• Specialised ‘lunch and learn’ sessions where you get to have lunch with your favorite keynote
• An Adelaide Parklands in Practice’ masterclass
• An exhibition of more than 40 of the industry’s best products and services.
• A local government ‘Great Debate’ and
• PLA’s Awards of Excellence gala dinner, where its 2016 member awards will be presented.

The conference will include optional technical tours providing access to some of Adelaide’s most important facilities and spaces.
