Perth’s Fringe World Festival set to attract thousands to over 100 venues
January 19, 2024

Perth's Fringe World Festival is running from 19th January to 18th February 2024 with performers from comedy to cabaret anticipated to attract hundreds of thousands of people to more than 100 venues.

Fringe World is the third largest Fringe Festival in the world in terms of ticket sales. Fringe World 2023 attracted an impressive 564,018 attendance at free and ticketed events, of which 281,157 attendances were ticketed. Over $8.7 million was spent at the Box Office, $6.3 million of which was paid to Fringe World Artists and Venues.

Fringe World Festival is presented by ARTRAGE Inc, a not-for-profit registered charity that is one of the oldest arts organisations in Western Australia.

Bringing hundreds of thousands of people each year since starting in 2011, the festival is filled will joy and surprise and will delight audiences once again with comedy, cabaret, dance, circus and theatre performances.

This year's festival features more than 550 events and over 2,500 artists. Local Western Australian artists feature alongside key international acts including brand new offerings "Bernie Dieter's Club Kabarett" straight from London's West End, "Fruits de la Passion" from New Caledonia and "Only Bones v1.9", a soundscape, acrobatics, clown and Kung Fu show by international artist Matt Pasquet.

Fringe World offers an average ticket price of only $32 and features 23 free events, including the FRINGE Sunday Funday on 21st January. This free community event will bring families together for a fun-filled day with live entertainment across two stages. Families will also be able to enjoy "Dinosaur Time Machine", giving people a chance to get up close and personal with a life-sized T-Rex.

The WA Government has provided an additional $1.5 million through Lotterywest to support the 2024 Fringe World Festival, bringing the total support through Lotterywest for the 2024 festival to $2.7 million.

Following a multi-year campaign by members of the Western Australian arts community to remove Woodside’s involvement in Perth's Fringe World Festival, the organisation that runs the Festival - Artrage - ended its partnership with the fossil fuel giant.

Additionally, the state Government has secured the future of Fringe World for another three years with a commitment of $2.9 million in new funding to enable the staging of the popular festival in 2025, 2026 and 2027.

WA Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman advised "Fringe World wouldn't be possible without the extraordinary dedication of Artrage and the artists, venues and volunteers who make the festival possible. With free and ticketed events, I encourage everyone to check out the program and join the festival fun."
