Australasian venues strong performers in Pollstar global ticket sales rankings

Five Australasian venues have been listed in the world's top performing entertainment arenas by global concert industry trade publication Pollstar.
With ticket data compiled from across the globe, Pollstar’s 2016 Third Quarter issue shows Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena in 31st place with 266,739 tickets sales this year; Perth Arena in 51st place with 209,154 ticket sales; Brisbane Entertainment Centre 60th with 184,793 ticket sales; Auckland’s Vector Arena 86th with 117,537 ticket sales and Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion 92nd with 107,551 ticket sales.
While fewer concert events have seen Australian and New Zealand venues slip down Pollstar’s rankings compared with just a few years ago, rankings confirm the strength of the region’s major entertainment arenas.
Globally, the world’s top performing arena is London’s O2 (with 1,064,912 ticket sales), followed by Madison Square Garden Arena, New York (731,574 ticket sales) and Mexico City’s Arena Ciudad de Mexico (with 701,001 ticket sales).
AEG Facilities, which manages The O2, and which also manages Pollstaer Top five venues the AccorHotels Arena in Paris, France and the Barclays Center in New York, USA, accounted for more than 7.4 million tickets sold through the Third Quarter of 2016.
A total of 23 venues owned, operated or affiliated with AEG Facilities were named in the list of the top 100 arenas, leading AEG Facilities President Bob Newman to state “the continued growth and success across all of our AEG Facilities arenas around the world showcases the great work done by all of our venues that continue to attract and host the world’s greatest events throughout the year.”
In terms of performances and tours, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band is the leading global tour selling 2,286,601 tickets and earning US$170.7 million gross, with Beyoncé second with 1,798,940 ticket sales.
