Organisations unite to present international water safety conference

Organisations unite to present international water safety conference
January 2, 2013

For the first time, two of Australasia's leading water safety organisations AUSTSWIM (Australasian Council for the Teaching of Swimming and Water Safety) and Water Safety New Zealand (WSNZ) are uniting to present an international conference on water safety and aquatic education.

The International Water Safety and Aquatic Education Conference will be held in from 3rd to 5th October 2013 at the Rydges Lakeland Resort, Queenstown, New Zealand.

The combined event replaces AUSTSWIM's National Aquatic Education Conference, normally held on the Gold Coast in July, and the New Zealand Water Safety Conference, hosted by WSNZ on a bi-annual basis.

In excess of 300 delegates are expected to attend from a variety of disciplines and sectors from across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Rim.

The conference will be managed by Queenstown-based QT Event Management with registration and accommodation bookings processed through their secure on-line registration system.

AUSTSWIM was formed in 1979, with the objective of developing a consistent and better quality training of Teachers of Swimming and Water Safety across Australia. AUSTSWIM consists of a National Council which has members from The Royal Life Saving Australia, Surf Life Saving Australia, Swimming Australia Ltd, YMCA, ALFA, Water Safety New Zealand and from AUSTSWIM State Advisory Committees from each state and territory of Australia.

AUSTSWIM has a strong philosophy that is founded on the belief that all Australians should have appropriate and relevant swimming and water safety skills and understand the principles and practices of water safety.

AUSTSWIM trains and accredits 10,000 Teachers of Swimming and Water Safety per year, has trained over 170,000 Teachers since inception and has currently over 30,000 active, accredited teachers based in Australia, NZ and internationally.

Water Safety New Zealand
Formed in 1949, Water Safety New Zealand is the national organisation responsible for water safety education in New Zealand. Water Safety New Zealand is a membership-based collective comprising 35 organisations.

Water Safety New Zealand provides leadership in the effective co-ordination of water safety education to the community to achieve the organisations mission of preventing injury and drowning through effective water safety education.
