NSW sporting fields to be revitalised with organic waste

NSW sporting fields to be revitalised with organic waste
December 15, 2015

Environmental consultancy AgEnviro Solutions has been awarded $350,000 under the NSW Government's Organic Markets Development Grants Program to utilise compost made from organic and garden waste to revitalise some of NSW's worst sporting fields.

The Program has already seen the completion of work on a number of display fields, including John Dwyer Oval at Caringbah.

Explaining that the Program is designed to expand the market for recycled organics in NSW, NSW Environment Minister Mark Speakman stated "in partnership with the Football NSW, AgEnviro Solutions will also provide technical advice to sporting field managers to maximise turf conditions using compost.

“With a steady increase in the amount of food and garden waste being collected through kerbside ‘green bin’ collections, 150 of the worst performing soccer fields in NSW will benefit from the recycled organic material collected from NSW households.

“This is just one of 13 projects in the Organic Markets Development Grants Program with grant recipients sharing almost $2,350,000.”

The Organics Market Development Grants Program offered councils, businesses, government and community groups the opportunity to apply for funding of up to $500,000 for any project that promotes or develops recycled organics.

The Organics Market Development Grants Program is part of the NSW Government’s Waste Less Recycle More initiative, which is a four-year $465.7 million package to transform waste and recycling in NSW, administered by the NSW Environment Protection Authority.

Further information about the Organics Market Development Grants Program and summaries of all 13 projects are available on the NSW EPA website at www.epa.nsw.gov.au/wastegrants/index.htm
