NRL club Manly sees Chief Executive quit after just six months

NRL club the Manly Sea Eagles’ revolving door of senior staff has seen Chief Executive Tim Cleary resign after just six months in the role.

Cleary who had previously been headmaster at St Augustines College, Brookvale – located right next to the Sea Eagles home ground – had only commenced in the role in December.

He is believed to have stepped down as a result of an ongoing dispute with Sea Eagles legend and current club strategic football consultant Bob Fulton.

The dispute reportedly arose when Cleary (pictured) sacked Fulton’s daughter, Kristie, from the Manly commercial department earlier this season.

At the time of the sacking, Manly Chairman Scott Penn pledged his full support to Cleary.

However, that support appears to have changed with Penn telling Sydney newspaper The Daily Telegraph “this hasn’t worked out.”

Reports emerged several months ago that Manly’s front-office staff were interviewed by human resources consultants amid talk the working environment was “toxic”.

While the search begins for a new Chief Executive, Penn has taken over at Manly, appointing himself the club’s Executive Chairman.
