New synthetic surface benefits athletes in Geelong

New synthetic surface benefits athletes in Geelong
December 17, 2019

Athletes in Geelong’s northern suburbs now have access to a modern, state-of-the-art facility after a $1.3 million redevelopment of the Goldsworthy Reserve in the suburb of Corio.

With the reserve’s old athletics track replaced with a new IAAF-approved synthetic rubber surface, the makeover has delivered new triple and long-jump facilities, synthetic turf in the throw cages, improved drainage, kerbing and pavements, and root barriers to prevent damage from nearby trees.

The project, which saw Polytan install a Spurtan BV athletics track surface, also features in-ground technology to provide precise timing and data logging.

The venue is home to the Corio Little Athletics Centre, which includes Bell Park, Corio South, Corio West, Golden Plains and Lara Little Athletics Clubs. It is also regularly used by local primary and secondary schools.

The works were fully funded by the City of Greater Geelong.
