New portable barrier solution to protect event and venue attendees

New portable barrier solution to protect event and venue attendees
September 24, 2018

Having provided portable barrier systems for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Knight Brothers Pty Ltd is now offering its hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM) solutions to clients across the events, mass gathering and venue sectors.

Australia is developing an increased focus on the protection of places of mass gathering, as highlighted by the recent Australia-New Zealand Counter-Terrorism Committee (ANZCTC) strategy relating to the awareness and implementation of suitable measures to protect event and venue attendees from hostile vehicle attacks.

As Dr Daniel Knight, Project Manager - High Security Solutions at Knight Brothers, explains “many events held at venues or other public places simply do not accommodate the implementation of permanent measures, such as conventional anti-ram bollards due to operational requirements of the site or the infrequency of specific events requiring HVM measures.

“This in turn has placed operators and managers of events, and places of mass gathering with the growing difficulty of ensuring satisfactory and compliant HVM measures are considered.

Capabilities extend to vehicle vulnerability assessments (VVAs), with approach speed and impact angle analysis, along with recommendations on suitable mitigation measures to ensure performance compliance.

“As part of a product and solution offering, Knight Brothers have partnered with US based Delta Scientific Corporation, to enhance their capability within Australia and offer various purchase and/or rental options of portable internationally recognised and crash-tested HVM barriers and bollard systems.”

The innovative design of the systems ensure that deployment is achieved in a matter of minutes with no requirement for ground preparation or fixation, which provides an added benefit for events in public spaces, as there is no residual damage to the road surface. Once deployed from the integrated trailer-dolly, the active barrier systems operate from a stand-alone battery powered hydraulic system to allow authorised push-button lowering for thoroughfare of service and emergency vehicles. Operation is simple and controlled by event security staff through keyed access to the system control panel. Supplementing the active barriers, portable static bollard arrays are deployed in various configurations dependant on the road closure requirements, all while allowing pedestrian access in accordance with DDA requirements.

Recently deployed in large numbers throughout the 2018 Commonwealth Games, these portable barriers accounted for a key-element of the HVM perimeter coupled with the ability to control vehicle access at key checkpoint locations including the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, Metricon Stadium, the Games athletes’ villages and various road closures around the Broadbeach area.

Sydney-based Knight Brothers Pty Ltd are a specialist high-security solutions provider established to provide Australian venue and event operators with tried-and-tested temporary HVM solutions.
