Peninsula Hot Springs Group to open new wellness destination in remote Cunnamulla

Peninsula Hot Springs Group to open new wellness destination in remote Cunnamulla
January 18, 2024

The Peninsula Hot Springs Group has announced a new hot spring wellness destination designed by Cox Architects and overlooking the Warrego River in Cunnamulla, Queensland, is scheduled to open on 1st February 2024.

Owned by the local Paroo Shire, and managed by Peninsula Hot Springs Group, the location is innately tied to both the local region and the Group’s passion and mission for wellness and relaxation.

According to Charles Davidson from Peninsula Hot Springs, they are hoping to create a hub that encourages people to explore local culture and engage with the community.

Davidson shares “Cunnamulla Hot Springs in one of the remotest destinations in one of the least populated countries in the world. We want guests to connect with the outback, the local indigenous communities and most importantly, the water; the mineral rich, artesian water that is found at Cunnamulla.”

The premium Cunnamulla complex will offer an array of therapeutic activities with guests able to enjoy the benefits of geothermal pools as they relax under the shade of the native trees.

The wellness experience will feature several geothermic free-flowing pools of various temperatures, rich with healing mineral water that is naturally heated by the artesian basin that lies below the facilities. With proven health benefits, the act of bathing in geothermic waters can reduce arthritic symptoms, ease muscle tension, improve mental health, sleep, boost circulation and aid in relaxation.

Davidson adds “Our hope is that Cunnamulla Hot Springs will create a sense of community by embracing the land, culture and wellbeing – as the Mornington Peninsula did when it opened, over 18 years ago.”

Guests can immerse themselves in a variety of thermal bathing and wellness experiences including seven sunning pools, a sauna and steam room, and a salt scrubs and clay mask area.

A specially designed ‘shallow pool’ allows for total immersion to gaze at the stars and designed to capture the beauty of the clear evening skies.

Cunnamulla Hot Springs also offers the unique experience of bathing at cooler times of the day with the chance to embrace the dawn with sunrise bathing from 6am and shake off the stresses of the day with a sunset soak from 5-9pm during the week.

Designed by Cox Architects, Cunnamulla Hot Springs reflects the landscape on which it sits – raw and earthy tones, mix with natural materials such as stone and ironbark timber, set against the hardened surfaces of concrete and steel. All the while softened by the calming, thermal waters flowing through the space.

The $11.7million project was jointly funded by the federal and Queensland state governments making it the largest funded project ever undertaken by the Paroo Shire Council, other than roadworks.

According to Paroo Shire Chief Executive, Cassie White this has been a whole of community effort that will bring enormous benefit to the region.

White enthused “I am absolutely thrilled that we are officially opening the Cunnamulla Hot Springs this month! The Hot Springs promise to be an oasis of wellness in the heart of the outback. A place where both locals and tourists will be able to experience the profound benefits of our natural healing artesian waters.

“An enormous amount of work has gone into the Hot Springs from initial development through to the final landscaping – I am so proud of what has been achieved by our community and the positive benefits it will bring our region into the future.”

With seven pools, a sauna and steam room, the new hot spring’s location is bound to strengthen both the Peninsula Hot Spring Group’s stellar reputation, as well as visitation the Warrego River and winder Paroo Shire. The unique location offers several opportunities for guests to embrace the brilliance of Cunnamulla region, with stunning boat tours, riverwalks, opal fields, national parks and indigenous cultural experiences on offer.
