read moreMackay Regional Council is to start work on a new bikeway linking its Bluewater Trail early next month.
Councillor Ross Gee said the project would provide a convenient route for North Mackay and Mount Pleasant residents to access the popular Bluewater Trail.
Councillor Gee advised “Council is committed to encouraging healthy lifestyles.
“The 21-kilometre Bluewater Trail is a shared path that showcases the natural beauty of the region while promoting recreational opportunities and community wellbeing.
“This project will improve accessibility around the region for cyclists and pedestrians.”
The bikeway will be constructed on the southern side of Ron Camm Bridge and will feature two paths, on either side of the road, that will link up to the Bluewater Trail.
This will cater to both inbound and outbound traffic along the bridge.
Haber Excavations will be carrying out this work on behalf of Council.
Construction is scheduled to take place from early February and be completed mid-May, weather permitting.
The $995,000 project is funded by the Queensland Government’s Department of Transport and Main Roads, under the Active Transport Program.
