Two independent consultants, David Gallop and Colin Smith, both with experience in elite sporting competitions and broadcasting, have been brought on board to help determine an eighth team for the league.
Former Football Federation Australia and NRL Chief Executive Gallop and professional sports adviser Smith have been appointed to a Netball Australia sub-committee which will advise on the recommended licence holder for the 2024-2026 seasons.
The eighth team licence became available after the Collingwood Football Club chose to withdraw its licence after seven years in the Suncorp Super Netball competition.
Gallop and Smith, along with Netball Australia Chair Wendy Archer, board members John O’Sullivan, Peter Legg and Mo’onia Gerrard and Chief Executive Kelly Ryan, met at their first sub-committee meeting on Tuesday night where a terms of reference were endorsed and a request for proposal process established.
Applications for the eighth licence are open until 20th June.
The sub-committee will then assess a number of key aspects of those applications, such as proposed structure, financial viability, intended location, projected audience, previous experience in sport and the ability to drive growth, player development and wellbeing strategy.
Advising that it is pleasing to have a wealth of experience on the sub-committee, including two independent consultants, Archer commented “we are running a thorough process to determine the eighth licensee for Suncorp Super Netball.
“We want to ensure this new licence holder has the capability to run a sustainable and successful team well into the future.”
