Multi-million dollar improvements underway at Mooloolaba Holiday Park and boardwalk

Multi-million dollar improvements underway at Mooloolaba Holiday Park and boardwalk
July 17, 2019

The Sunshine Coast Council has advised that a multi-million dollar upgrade program has commenced at the popular Mooloolaba Holiday Park.

Closed since 1st July, work at the popular Mooloolaba visitor location will see current facilities demolished and replaced with high quality, modern amenities before reopening in early December.

Commenting on the works Sunshine Coast Councillor John Connolly advised “our holidaymakers deserve contemporary facilities which meet their needs and the industry trend for larger caravans, motorhomes and camping trailers requires larger sites.

“This extensive $3.8 million upgrade will replace the 75 small powered sites with 60 larger sites, all with improved access, new amenities including a camp kitchen, landscaping and improved connections to the beachside boardwalk.

“I’ve met many people who have made treasured memories and life-long friends while staying at the Mooloolaba Holiday Park.

“I am delighted council will be able to provide them with the latest conveniences that patrons have come to expect when holidaying.”

A $500,000 renewal of the northern section of the Mooloolaba Spit Boardwalk will coincide with the redevelopment of the holiday park and is anticipated to be complete by late September, weather permitting.

This is the second and final stage of the $2.5 million boardwalk renewal, a joint initiative of Sunshine Coast Council and the Queensland Government through the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.

Undertaking these projects at the same time and outside the peak summer tourism period allows council to minimise disruptions to the community.

Councillor Connolly added “the Mooloolaba Spit Boardwalk is a popular route for walkers, runners and riders in our healthy, smart, creative community, as well as those out enjoying the natural beauty Mooloolaba is famous for.

“Stage one has been very well received by the community and involved widening pathways and improving beach access.

“Stage two of this project will deliver further improved beach access, along with new public seating and lighting.

“The widened pathway will provide improved access for people with a disability and better cater to the growing crowds during busy times.”

These projects are some of many Mooloolaba infrastructure projects council is investing in to create a world class destination for our residents and visitors to enjoy.

Sunshine Coast Council operates beachside holiday parks at Dicky Beach, Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Cotton Tree, Mudjimba and Coolum.
