Malaysia Major Events highlights event credentials at SportAccord Bangkok convention
April 24, 2018

Following its successful hosting of the 29th Southeast Asia Games and the 9th ASEAN Para Games in 2017, Malaysia Major Events (MME) has used the 2018 SportAccord convention in Bangkok, to showcase the nation’s capabilities in hosting sporting - as well as arts, lifestyle and entertainment - events.

A division of the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Malaysia, MME is tasked under the Prime Minister's Economic Transformation Program (ETP) to place Malaysia on the “world map” as an event venue of choice.

MME is also promoting the Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign.

MME General Manager Tony Nagamaiah explains “MME has been participating in the SportAccord convention since 2011, and it has proven to be the best platform for us to gain insights on what other players in the sports events industry are up to.

“With over 2000 delegates and representatives from international sports federation, host city, event organiser and suppliers, this is also a good opportunity to pick up leads and help our efforts in securing world-class sporting events to be held in Malaysia as we gear up for the upcoming Visit Malaysia 2020.”

In 2017, sporting events supported by MME attracted close to 170,000 attendees out of which over 42,000 are international attendees.

MME also supported the ALYA WTA – Malaysia Open 2017, World Chinese Basketball International Tournament, Viper Challenge, Ironman Malaysia and Ironman 70.3 langkawi, FIM Asia Supermoto Championship, FIVB World Tour 2017 and the Powerman Asia Duathlon Championships.

The SportAccord Convention annually brings together representatives from more than 100 International Sports Federations including representatives from major events held in Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and South America.

In addition, ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations), AIOWF (Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations), ARISF (Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations), AIMS (Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport) and Associate Members host their Annual General Assemblies at the Convention.
