read moreAiming to enhance the safety of events, mass gatherings and venues, the Event Safety Institute Australia will officially be launched on 24th November at the Roslyn Packer Theatre, located in Sydney's Walsh Bay precinct.
The launch will be alongside the delivery of the Professor G. Keith Still Introduction to Crowd Science course around Australia.
After an introduction by Syan Schaap, Director of the Event Safety Institute in the Netherlands, there will be a panel discussion, moderated by Crowd Safety specialist Roderick van Gelder, discussing what 'Crowd Science' means and how it applies to so many aspects of our professional lives.
Professor Still will join via videolink for a Q&A session before the formal session wraps up followed by a beverage and networking options.
Introduction to Crowd Science
Developed by Professor Still, the course Introduction to Crowd Science is now provided by the teachers of the Event Safety Institute under a license from the UK-based crowd safety and crowd risk analysis expert.
Professor Still notes "crowd safety is central to event planning and the considerations to be made when choosing, designing and assessing the safety of an event location."
Specialist training course for safety professionals and governments
Introducing the training, van Gelder advised "if you are responsible for the safety in public areas, you must be able to apply principles and insights to the field of crowd science.
"Anyone involved in a private role or a public responsibility must be able to understand which risks play a role and how to deal with the specific safety risks surrounding crowds. The Event Safety Institute offers this internationally accredited level 5 course for professionals exclusively for Australia and New Zealand."
The course is provided in Australia and New Zealand on behalf of ESI by van Gelder.
