read moreThe Mittagong Swimming Pool, Wingecarribee Shire Council’s oldest public swimming facility, has reopened to the public after the completion of a multi-million dollar make-over project.
Over 1,000 patrons attended the recent reopening following the facility’s rejuvenation.
Works, which saw the demolition of the facility’s toddlers pool, have seen the integration of Learn to Swim pool and aquatic play area, and also included the addition of an accessible ramp from the kiosk entry level to the pool deck, installation of tuition seating for the Learn-to-Swim pool and the erection of a shade sail.
Further enhancements included refurbishing the existing filtration unit while new flexible membrane liners were installed in the 50 metre and 25 metre pools.
Prior to the refurbishment, which started in June last year, the facility’s pool had faced a range of maintenance issues common to many ageing aquatic centres with water leakage and rising maintenance and operating costs.
Refurbished using Hydrocare Pools Services' innovative Waterzone Pool reinforced vinyl swimming pool lining system, the upgrade also included the replumbing of its water filtration and management system that maintains the pool's water clarity.
Wingecarribee Shire Council Council Deputy General Manager - Operations, Finance & Risk Barry Paull said after years of service the pool needed refurbishment.
Paull stated “the pool contains a wealth of history and natural beauty.”
While the Mittagong Pool was closed, the Council introduced a range of pool entry subsidies for residents of the shire's northern communities enabling reduced cost access to the Bowral Swimming Centre and the Moss Vale War Memorial Aquatic Centre.
The use of the Waterzone Pool lining system at the Mittagong Pool significantly reduced the cost or refurbishment and marks the fourth installation of the technology.
The system was introduced at the Parkes Swimming Pool in the western NSW town of Parkes in 2012, generating increased patronage and reduced running costs.
Other installations have been at the Portland & District Olympic Pool (installed 10 years ago), the Oberon Pool and, as soon to be completed project, at the Lithgow Aquatic Centre.
Works on the Mittagong Swimming Pool were undertaken by the Icon Building Group with Hydrocare Pool Services responsible for the plant upgrades and new vinyl pool liners.
Construction was undertaken by the Icon Building Group.
