read moreThe historic 'little pool' at the Parkes swimming complex is to be demolished to make way for a modern wet play area.
Set to be completed in time for the start of the Christmas school holidays, the project was officially approved at last week's Parkes Shire Council meeting.
The development forms part of the Council's Swimming Pools Strategy utilising available funding of approximately $500,000. The funding is part of an overall $1.5 million upgrade to all pools within the Parkes Shire.
Council is currently calling for tenders to undertake construction of the new water play-park and shallow water pool.
The successful tender will also be required to demolish the existing toddler's pool with other work to include capping of the existing filtered water return line, construction of a small masonry plant room, install required sumps and backwash detention tanks and construct shade structure, concourse surround and new glass balustrade fence.
Parkes Shire council's Director Engineering Services Steve Barry said the new facility will serve the same purpose as the old toddler's pool stating "there will be no reduction in the service of the pool, but it will be more inviting to youngsters with water toys installed to create a wet playscape."
