How did they get their new synthetic surface?

How did they get their new synthetic surface?
June 11, 2013

With many councils, sportsclubs, schools and playgroups around Australia wanting to install artificial turf and synthetic safety surfaces, delegates at this week's National Synthetic Surfaces Conference & Expo (NSSCE) can learn how recent installations have been planned and funded.

The event's conference program will be providing an invaluable learning resource for councils, sportsclubs and other organisations who are considering the prospect of a synthetic surface, with presentations examining installations from a financial, environmental, quality and community perspective with input from council staff and elected members, prominent industry figures and with the packing of world governing bodies of sport and Australian peak bodies.

An important theme throughout the conference will be exploring a council's journey from the initial proposal of a surface, to the installation.

Case studies will see Julie Whitfield, Open Space Manager for Willoughby City Council, discuss Willoughby City Council's experience with the design of a surface, while Les Munn, Manager of Reserves and Recreation at Pittwater Council will look at the process of finding open space for the synthetic surfaces, and how schools and local government can work together to ensure a positive outcome for the entire community.

Wayne Stuart from the City of Swan will look at the planning process from a local government perspective, referencing their new multi-sports facility. From a financial perspective, Martin Sheppard, Managing Director of Smart Company, will discuss investment in synthetic surfaces, and how they can be justified in both drought and rain soaked areas.

The conference program also offers delegates the opportunity to meet with the governing bodies of sport including Tennis Australia; world football governing body FIFA, Football NSW & Football Federation Victoria; the International Rugby Board; Bowls Australia; the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and Hockey ACT; and the AFL.

The event is being held tomorrow (12th June) and Thursday 13th June at Sydney's Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.

With more than 30 exhibitors, the NSSCE's free to enter exhibition will also offer great opportunities to view, touch and discuss the latest ideas and concepts in the industry with other industry professionals.
