High demand sees new campgrounds open in Litchfield National Park

Every year, more than 300,000 people visit the Northern Territor'ys Litchfield National Park and stay at the Central Valley campgrounds, situated 100 km south-west of Darwin.

The Central Valley campgrounds 2 and 3 are now complete, marking the completion of the Northern Territory Government’s $17.5 million Turbo Charging Tourism project.

With 99% of camp bookings for Campground 1 coming from local residents, the addition of Central Valley to Litchfield National Park has created 32 new campsites across three campgrounds for both locals and visitors.

The campgrounds have drop toilets, information shelter, and are accessible by four-wheel-drive vehicles only.

Each of the campgrounds has something slightly different for visitors, with Campground 1 offering direct access to a spring-fed creek, and campgrounds 2 and 3 offering more family-friendly bush camping with a short walk to the water.

Northern Territory Minister for Parks and Rangers, Nicole Manison enthused “this is fantastic news for visitors and locals, just in time for the Dry Season.

“Litchfield National Park is a huge drawcard for the Top End and these new camp grounds are a great excuse to get out and explore one of our iconic national parks.”
