Government Welcomes live music industry stand against alcohol-related violence

April 26, 2010
The Federal Government has congratulated the live music community for taking a stand against irresponsible drinking and alcohol related violence.
An event, âLive Solution: live music against alcohol fuelled violenceâ, being held in Melbourne today, is set to show how the live music industry and fans of live music can play a part in challenging alcohol related violence and encouraging the responsible consumption and service of alcohol.
Sponsorship is being provided from the Australian Government to the Youth Alcohol Education Coalition for this initiative, a pilot partnership to raise awareness of the risks of binge drinking.
The âLive Solution: live music against alcohol fuelled violenceâ event is showcasing some of Melbourneâs best musical talent â including Dallas Crane, Black Cab, Charles Jenkins & the Zhivagos, Precious Jules, Sand Pebbles, Worldâs End Press, Guy Blackman, Aleks and the Ramps, The Spoils and Sophia Brous.
Federal Minister for Health and Aging Nicola Roxon has congratulated the Youth Alcohol Education Coalition and Mushroom Marketing for organising the event as well as Melbourneâs independent community radio station 3RRR, who are broadcasting the event live.
Minister Roxon stated âI congratulate the musicians for stepping up to be role models. This event sends a strong message that everyone should be safe to go out and enjoy Melbourneâs live music scene safely.
âUnder the $53.5 million National Binge Drinking Strategy, the Government has implemented a range of initiatives aimed at reducing the harms caused by the excessive consumption of alcohol.
âThese include the National Binge Drinking Campaign, community level initiatives which confront the culture of binge drinking, particularly in sporting organisations, and an Early Intervention Pilot Program designed to assist young people and ensure that they assume personal responsibility for their binge drinking.?
