read moreThe Gold Coast’s SkyPoint tower is preparing for participants who will take on Australia’s highest stair challenge and be rewarded the spectacular finish line at the SkyPoint Observation Deck.
To be held on Sunday 10th March, the event will see participants take on 77 spiralling storeys with a total of 1,331 stairs as they make their way to the top of the landmark Q1 building for the annual SkyPoint Sea to Sky Q1 Stair Challenge.
This challenge is as rewarding as it is gruelling, raising much-needed funds for local charity Rosies – Friends on the Street, supporting Gold Coast residents who are most in need.
The challenge is open to all fitness levels so participants can run, walk or crawl their way to the top in a range of individual or team categories.
Over the past four years 3,500 participants have raised over $150,000 for local charities. This year, organisers aim to welcome over 1,000 participants and raise over $50,000.
This year, a new and even bigger challenge has been launched: Team Everest. A maximum of four teams, made up of 10 people, will take on the challenge to complete a total of 40 ascents of the iconic climb (four ascents per person), equating to scaling the height of Mount Everest (8,848 metres).
All Stair Challenge participants must pledge a $35 minimum donation on top of their event registration. This amount will go directly towards assisting homeless men and women on the Gold Coast through Rosies – Friends on the Street.
Established on the Gold Coast in 1987, Rosies now helps thousands of people around Queensland every year, providing friendship and hospitality to those who have been abandoned, marginalised or socially isolated. A team of over 300 volunteers (1,280 state-wide) are on Gold Coast streets six nights per week covering Southport, Surfers Paradise, Nerang, Burleigh and Palm Beach.
SkyPoint General Manager, Dylan Hunt “the SkyPoint Sea to Sky Q1 Stair Challenge has supported local charities since 2015 and it continues to grow in popularity each year.
“Each individual completing the challenge is rewarded not only by their own performance, but in knowing that they are giving back to some of those in our community most in need, not to mention the chance to take in the best views of the Gold Coast at Australia’s only beachside observation deck – SkyPoint.”
