read moreLeading ticketing, live entertainment and data analytics company TEG has acclaimed the success of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games as reinforcing Australia’s global reputation for staging international major events.
The Games fulfilled 1.217 million tickets or 98% of available inventory for the 274 individual sessions available over 18 sports and seven para-sports across 17 newly configured venues.
The TEG-owned Ticketek Australia was the official ticket agent providing ticketing technology and marketing services for the Gold Coast Games.
TEG Chief Executive Geoff Jones advised "the Gold Coast has exceeded all expectations as the first regional city to host the Commonwealth Games this century.
“The competition, the venues and the organisation was first class. The 1.217 million tickets is a stunning achievement and the organising committee GOLDOC deserves praise for the delivery.
"I am delighted that Ticketek Australia played such a pivotal role as the ticketing provider.”
Jones said the complexity of the ticketing program made the Gold Coast Games one of the biggest projects in Ticketek Australia’s 37-year history, adding “this was a unique challenge, from the opening ticket requests window, through the balloting process and on to general public sales program. It has been a remarkable performance by the Ticketek platform and all the people who made it happen.”
Ticketek’s platform is internationally recognised for its reliability and scalable transactional capability and has been selected as the official ticketing agent for every major international sporting event in Australia and New Zealand over the past 15 years.
The list includes the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, the 2017 British & Irish Lions Tour of New Zealand, the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, the 2015 FIFA World Youth Cup New Zealand, the 2008 and 2011 Rugby League World Cups and the 2003 IRB Rugby World Cup.
