Gold Coast Commonwealth Games begins recruitment for key positions

Gold Coast Commonwealth Games begins recruitment for key positions
December 29, 2011

Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Organising Committee has commenced the recruitment of key positions for the organisation of the 2018 Games.

Among the posts being recruited is that of Chief Executive, with Mark Peters, Chief Executive of the bid team, having to reapply for his own job if he wants to stay in the role.

According to local media, it had been understood that Peters, the former Australian Sports Commission Chief Executive, would be given the job with the organising committee before the end of the year after he received strong support from organising committee Chairman Mark Stockwell and Australian Commonwealth Games Association President Sam Coffa.

However, the post has been advertised with Peters acting in the role until an appointment is made.

Organising committee chairman Mark Stockwell said the decision to advertise was made because of the significance of the role, stating "an event like this is very large (and) you want to know who is out there."

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh added that "the role will be widely advertised to ensure we get the right candidate to fill such an important position."

Premier Bligh has also predicted that hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games will create more than 30,000 jobs in the region and provide a $2 billion economic boon.

Premier Bligh has said that more than $500 million will ld soon be invested in sport and transport infrastructure on the Gold Coast Work with work on the $650 million Games village at Parklands set to begin next year.
