Generate Network seeks to engage young recreation professionals

A new organisation, the Generate Network, is aiming to provide a collective voice for young professionals in environmental management, recreation and sport, supporting development opportunities for those working in the sector.
The Generate Network believes in the importance of professionalism required within the industry about and is looking to evoke change through collaboration, provide a collective voice for young industry professionals, and to offer personal and professional development opportunities for the greater good of the industry.
The New Zealand-based organisation believes:
• Healthy Places make Healthy People
• The natural environment is worth protecting
• Multi-cultural societies means multiple values, history and cultural significance – these values should be embraced and the societies engaged with
• Recreation is important for mental and physical health and recreation should be available to all
• The recreation and environmental industries comprise of highly specialised skilled professionals. The professionals within this industry require recognition of this.
• Our future prosperity is dependent on managing the environment sustainably
Engaging with professionals starting out in their career aged between 20 and 35, Generate also works with a number of partner organisations.
The organisation is chaired by Christchurch-based recreation consultant Jenn Halliday in New Zealand and, expanding into Australia, has appointed its first Australian chair, Eve Craker - Sport and Recreation Jobs Plan Officer at Logan City Council.
