GameDay partners with Sisense to build data visualisation tool to scale sports club management and engagement

GameDay partners with Sisense to build data visualisation tool to scale sports club management and engagement
October 22, 2021

Sports technology innovator GameDay has linked with Sisense, the leading AI-driven platform for infusing analytics everywhere, to revolutionise its data visualisation capability in its new ‘GameDay View’ solution.

GameDay - which obtains its data through its users, whether that be a player, coach, or sporting organisation logging in and completing a registration form - offers GameDay View to the majority of its customers, who are then able to track in real-time the retention of their participants, year on year.

The link with Sisense will see it infuse visualisation data and reduce time and cost for customers

Chris Guest, Commercial Director at GameDay, said they chose Sisense because it gave them the ability to build within their own technology stack, so Sisense could become ‘infused’ as a standard part of their offering for all their customers.

Guest advised “at GameDay, we surface key information about events happening through various ways, such as an individual registering to attend an event or logging onto the GameDay mobile app to see where they’re coming in their competition. As we were collecting data, we wanted to put it in a more visualised format for the sports and organisations to be able to make better, more accurate decisions in real-time.

“Sisense was chosen because it was a very promising 100% cloud-based solution, using the concept of ElastiCube, which bypasses a traditional data warehouse. The complexity and huge volume of our data meant that we needed to explore a modern data warehouse.”

GameDay, formerly known as Stack Sports, is 12 months into its journey and is already seeing significant results, including a reduction in time and costs and the ability to make informed decisions in real-time. Work that would have previously taken eight to 16 hours to complete and analyse specific data could be achieved in minutes and within a few clicks of a mouse.

The company is also able to compare results on a yearly basis, such as the growth of participation, growth of female participants, or retention across a certain age group.

Guest noted “thanks to Sisense, GameDay can provide access to data to customers and stakeholders faster and at scale. Being able to enable reporting in minutes and being able to export key dashboards and graphs and drop them in a board report is so valuable to us and our customers. We have had great feedback about that when we’ve presented GameDay View to potential new customers.”

The first use case for GameDay View was Hong Kong Rugby Union. Before GameDay View, the association would pay consultants every three to four years to find out how many people were participating in the sport.

Guest explained “GameDay View, powered by Sisense, has been able to simplify that process for them. They now have one centralised database where their participants are managed. They are able to access in real-time how many participants they’ve had and growth year on year.”

GameDay View also means customers don’t need to rely on manually intensive Excel spreadsheets or expensive, outsourced BI tools.

Guest added “we can use the AI to predict where we’re going to land in a certain month or so. Being able to predict what retention is going to look like, being able to set KPIs so organisations can measure that growth of benefits.

“Having the data so accessible to provide real, actionable decision-making, and the ability to make critical informed decisions for future planning is so important to us and our customers. In fact, it is vital to any organisation. It’s the way of the future."

Explaining that GameDay is an exceptional example of how AI can be seamlessly infused into sports technology to improve efficiencies, increase sports data transparency and boost sports community engagement, Sisense’s Regional Vice-President of APAC, Eyal Mekler went on to say “we’re proud of the way Sisense is helping open more real-time, actionable insights for sports bodies and institutions. GameDay’s success is a testament to how smart use of data analytics, combined with exceptional innovation can rapidly transform an industry for the better.”

Working with a wide variety of organisations, from national governing bodies and sporting federations, right through to professional teams and clubs as well as community sport, GameDay is headquartered in Melbourne and has offices in Sydney and Auckland as well as in London and Manchester in the UK.
