Final plans revealed for Brimbank’s health and wellbeing hub

Final plans revealed for Brimbank’s health and wellbeing hub
February 24, 2020

Brimbank Council has announced the finalisation of designs for their health and wellbeing hub.

St Albans Leisure Centre will be permanently closed to the public as of 14th April 2020 after about 60 years serving the community, to make way for the health and wellbeing hub.

Brimbank Mayor Georgina Papafotiou enthused "we’re so excited to be able to reveal to the community the final designs for the health and wellbeing hub – including the new aquatic and leisure facility.

"The hub is going to be an amazing regional destination with something for everyone and we can’t wait to deliver it to the community.

"In September 2019, Council announced that the current St Albans Leisure Centre would need to close to allow for construction of the health and wellbeing hub.”

A pop-up gym and relocated group fitness classes will be available at the nearby Keilor Downs Community Centre from 14th April 2020 to support the community to stay active throughout the construction phase.

Mayor Papafotiou added ‘these will be available once the centre closes and we’re confident community members will be very comfortable in these accommodations while we build the hub”

The next step in the project will be for Council to finalise the current tender process and appoint a contractor to demolish the current facility and construct the hub.

Construction is expected to start in mid-2020. The health and wellbeing hub is expected to be completed in 2022.

To make sure the community has an opportunity to say a proper goodbye to a facility that has played a part in the lives of many locals, Council will host a special farewell event on Thursday 9th April 2020. More details will be available soon.
