A new F45 gym at Erina on the NSW Central Coast has been opened by a group that includes Central Coast Mariners goalkeeper Liam Reddy.

Reddy has become the latest elite sportsman to open an F45 gym, with other franchise owners including NRL player Nate Myles, Wallaby Adam Ashley-Cooper and AFL stars Jimmy Bartel and Dyson Heppell.

Reddy is one of four owners of the Erina gym, with the group also set to open a franchise in Tuggerah.

Like many other areas in Australia, the Central Coast is highly competitive fitness market with Fitness Australia indicating there are close to 100 businesses in the region.

However, Reddy isn't concerned about competition, telling the Central Coast Advocate "this is something that’s different to other gyms, it’s 45 minutes of high-intensity interval training and you never see two sessions the same."

A Fitness Australia spokesperson said the Australian fitness industry had changed significantly over the past five years, against a backdrop of healthy growth, with a massive range of choices for gymgoers.

The spokesperson stated "until recently, the majority of industry growth had been stimulated by the advent of cost effective 24-hour gym chains, which have expanded heavily across all states and territories.

“More recently, the rapid expansion of small group training ­facilities has provided an added element of choice for consumers.”

Established by former equities trader Rob Deutsch and personal trainer Luke Istomin, F45 functional training franchises have enjoyed massive growth in Australian and is set to expand internationally with upcoming launches planned in New Zealand, India, the United Kingdom and the USA before the end of the year.
