Carnival operators at the Sydney Royal Easter Show are concerned at the growth of a rival event, the Sydney Family Show, at the Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

Being held over the Easter period, from 9th to 26th April, the Fairfax newspaper backed Sydney Family Show is free to enter ï¾ although rides are paid for.

In its first year in 2010, the Sydney Family Show attracted 150,000 visitors but organisers are expecting up to 300,000 visitors to come through the gates this year.

Daniel Osborne, head of FA Showstar, which runs the Sydney Family Show explains, "what makes us different is that (entry to) our show is completely free."

Broderick Pavier of Golden Way Amusements summed up concerns, stating that the event could confuse showgoers and is surprised that the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, organisers of the Sydney Royal Easter Show at Sydney Olympic Park, "hasn't been able to get better protection for its brand."
