Early works set commence on HOTA project

Early works set commence on HOTA project
September 17, 2018

The City of Gold Coast has announced that works on the HOTA Gallery and green bridge to Chevron Island are set to start concurrently as part of the next phases of the HOTA project at Evandale.

Emphasising that the project will involve no net loss of public open space and that most events and activities across the precinct will be unaffected, a statement from the Council advised “importantly, HOTA will continue expanding its indoor and outdoor programming, and residents will continue to be able to access the popular parklands and lake, construction permitting.”

Early works will commence this month for the Hansen Yuncken designed gallery and in October for the green bridge.

The vertical HOTA Gallery will be built west of the outdoor stage with its construction footprint to occupy a section of existing car park, currently utilised by City staff and HOTA patrons.

The green bridge construction compound is in the northern Evandale Parklands and will include a small section of the lake.

The Council statement added “part of the early works requires the removal of some vegetation and trees in the southern part of the precinct and during construction of the green bridge on the northern edge of the precinct.

“New trees and gardens will be planted, in line with the lush, green, accessible and enriching artscape envisioned by the 2014 Gold Coast Cultural Precinct Master Plan.”
