Cumberland Council to open all pools for upcoming summer
October 4, 2018

Western Sydney's Cumberland Council has committed to opening all of its aquatic facilities for the upcoming summer, with Mayor Greg Cummings assuring the community that Council’s Swim Centre Modernisation Program would not impact operating hours during the peak 2018/19 season.

Mayor Cummings advised “Council will be engaging with the community on its Swim Centre Modernisation Program.

“Upgrading Council’s facilities means we can deliver better services for the whole community.

“The full program of works will be available in early 2019 (but) in the meantime, snap on your swimsuit and enjoy our aquatic centres this summer.”

Mayor Cummings invited parents to enrol their children in Learn to Swim classes and take advantage of the Active Kids Program; a NSW Government initiative where parents and carers can apply for a voucher valued up to $100 per calendar year, per child, to help cover the costs of participating in sports and active recreation activities.

He added “Cumberland Council is a proud partner of the Swim and Survive program; a comprehensive swimming and water safety initiative of (the) Royal Life Saving (Society - Australia) that seeks to increase the water safety skills of Australian children to prevent drowning and increase participation in safe aquatic activity.

“Since its inception over 30 years ago, more than 15 million Australian children have participated in the Swim and Survive program. Swim and Survive has made a significant contribution in many families’ lives by reducing the rate of drowning in children aged 5-14 years by over 75%.

“Cumberland Council swim centres are for the whole family, so parents, carers and friends are also invited to join and can even sign up for adult lessons as well.”

Cumberland Council has committed to modernising its pools at Guildford and Wentworthville, while carrying out minor upgrades to the Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre under its 2018/19 budget.
