read moreThe Poseidon anti-drowning detection system has gained national media attention with the Maytronics Australia distributed technology featured on Channel 9 Brisbane news.
Showing examples of the effectivess of the Poseidon anti-drowning detection system from the Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope as well as from overseas, the report asks why council owned public pools “in Queensland aren't yet on board with the new pool safety technology.”
Despite being an acknowledged success globally and having been recommended by a Queensland Coronial inquest, the Poseidon system has struggled to gain acceptance in Australia, with the report quoting a Brisbane City Council spokesperson as saying the “cost of the surveillance system is an unnecessary cost”.
Interviewed during the report, Maytronics Australia Managing Director Dan Kwaczynski stated “when someone is drowning you have really got 30 seconds to get to them in time to prevent them suffering serious injury or death.
“The system pinpoints exactly where (the person) is to alert the lifeguard to get their in time.”
