read moreAir Locker Training in the Brisbane suburb of Newstead has gone into voluntary liquidation this week.
As reported by 7NEWS, it was resolved at a company meeting on 8th November the inner-city altitude training gym would be wound up and liquidators would be appointed.
Part of a nationwide franchise which has 26 locations, Air Locker Training provides an oxygen reduced environment in which the body’s efficiency is improved when exercising.
Air Locker Training’s website advises “through regular training in an altitude environment, the human body is exposed to a surrounding that naturally helps it to adapt both physically and mentally, and to perform more efficiently and effectively.”
Appointed as liquidator, Bill Cotter from Robson Cotter Insolvency Group in Woolloongabba, said the gym had “less than half a dozen employees” and “not very many creditors”.
Cotter advised that the membership numbers were also small, adding that initial estimates indicate the debt owed by the gym is “probably under $200,000”.
The liquidators will now look at the gym’s assets and who has a claim for debt owed.
Air Locker Training Newstead social media pages have been removed leaving members with no advice on their status or if memberships are transferrable.
Becoming popular among endurance athletes after the 1968 Summer Olympic Games in Mexico City, high altitude training gyms have grown in popularity in recent years.
However, research suggests that exercisers need to spend at least 12 hours every day in a high-altitude environment to experience the benefits.
