Australian Theatre Forum addresses contemporary issues in Australian theatre

Australian Theatre Forum addresses contemporary issues in Australian theatre
January 22, 2015

Being held this week, the fourth Australian Theatre Forum brings together theatre professionals from across the nation to engage in inspiring conversations and provocations about the urgent issues facing contemporary Australian theatre.

Produced by Theatre Network Victoria (TNV) and Curated by award-winning theatre maker David Williams, the fourth biennial Australian Theatre Forum (ATF) is aiming to generate discussion around contemporary theatre practice by bringing together professional artists, presenters, producers, managers and policy-makers from across the country.

Commenting on the significance of the ATF, TNV Director, Nicole Beyer explains “the Australian Theatre Forum has come to be recognised as the main meeting place for this sector.”

With the the theme ‘Making It’, ATF Curator David Williams highlights that the focus of the the event is on how theatre professionals “are ‘making it’ in theatre in Australia right now.”

Through a broad range of keynote speeches, panel discussions, workshops and activities, ATF 2015 will share some radical ideas about how theatre can and should make a difference. Williams adds “it will be a conversation with all corners of the sector – our writers, makers, designers and our elders – to ensure that we acknowledge our past in looking to the future.”

Being held as part of the Sydney Festival, the event’s Presenting Partner, ATF 2015 also has the Australia Council for the Arts as its Principal Funding Partner.

In addition, Arts NSW, Destination NSW and Business Events Sydney have joined as Strategic Funding Partners to bring the ATF to Sydney and showcase all that Sydney has to offer.

Sydney Festival Executive Director Christopher Tooher adds “as one the country’s leading cultural events we are delighted to have joining us in January 2015 more than 300 of the country’s best and brightest from the theatre industry.

“We look forward to the dialogue as part of Sydney Festival”.

Williams concludes “we want this forum to define a new way for us to talk about theatre in Australia.

“Driven by strong artistic voices, and embedded within the Sydney Festival program, ATF 2015: Making It will be a truly unique and transformative experience.”

ATF 2015 is being held from 20th to 23rd January at the Seymour Theatre, Sydney.
