Australian Technology Park sold for redevelopment

Australian Technology Park sold for redevelopment
August 1, 2016

The NSW Government has announced the sale of the Australian Technology Park, located in the inner Sydney suburb of Eveleigh, to property group Mirvac.

Located next to one of the busiest railway stations in Sydney and just three kilometres from the CBD, the 14 hectare area of former railway yards was created in the 1990s to aid new technology start-ups.

Since that time the site, which includes heritage-listed buildings including an old locomotive workshop, has become a popular location for a range of major events and conferences, including the Cruelty Free Festival, the Finders Keepers Markets and the Great Australian Beer ‘Spectapular’.

According to the ATP website, the venue will close on 30th June next year, after which “Mirvac will develop new office space across ATP, and up to 75,000 metre² of floor space capacity will be reserved at ATP for technology uses into the future.”

Ruby Chronis, ATP Conference Centre’s Director Sales and Marketing, said the venue had hosted some “truly incredible events”.

Chronis stated “when I look back at the events held since 1998 - the ATP Conference Centre has grown into an internationally renowned venue it is today.

“With our unique site, advances in technology, pursuit of innovation and technology and the pure theatre that surrounds an event” the unwavering support my team provides to our clients has seen some truly spectacular events delivered, which will be no different in the next 11 months,

“We will host around 500 events before our doors close next June, so we won’t be winding down – it will be full steam ahead until we switch the lights off after our final event.

“I really feel that the secret to our success has been the support and commitment provided by our team. We will continue to deliver events of a world class standard, and this final year will be our biggest yet”.

Proceeds from the sale will be invested in the upgrade to Redfern Station and the development of Sydney Metro Station at Waterloo.

The Australian Technology Park lies to the south of the area's railway lines while Sydney’s Carriageworks, set to be redeveleloped as a 5,000-seat live music venue, sits to the north of the railway.
