read moreThe Australian Reptile Park at Somersby on the NSW Central Coast is hoping a $10,000 reward will see the safe return of 23 stolen reptiles.
The reptiles, including snakes, lizards and a young alligator, were stolen from the behind-the-scenes education section of the Park on Sunday night, and Park staff have grave concerns for their welfare.
While the management team of the Australian Reptile Park are working with local police investigating the theft, the Park has used its website to offer a reward of $10,000 for the safe return of the stolen reptiles.
An additional offer of $5,000 is made for information leading to the conviction of the individuals who stole the reptiles.
Reptile Park Senior Curator Liz Vella explains "it's highly likely that someone out there knows something.
"Whether it's something you've heard, something you've seen or any information is of great benefit to us so we're hoping that people who know anything do come forward and can put us in the right direction."
Vella says it's a critical time for the reptiles, adding "many of the animals are babies and they require specialist care.
"The longer they're out, the less chance they have or surviving, so it's a desperately crucial time for us right now."
Anyone with information about the theft is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, www.reptilepark.com.au
