ALM shares editorial guidelines, contents policy and complaints procedure

ALM shares editorial guidelines, contents policy and complaints procedure
August 14, 2018

In a move to provide transparency on its operations, Australasian Leisure Management is highlighting that its editorial guidelines, contents policy and complaints procedure are all now available for readers to view online.

In addition, the leading industry magazine and website’s privacy policy, which takes account of compliance with new European privacy laws, in particular the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is also listed.

Commenting on the availability of the information, Australasian Leisure Management Publisher Nigel Benton explained “our policies and guidelines have always been available to readers but could have been seen as being ‘buried’ within the website.

“In an aim for transparency and to uphold the highest standards of public interest journalism which we aim to adhere to, it seems appropriate that information is easily accessible.

“The editorial guidelines, contents policy and complaints procedure cover what we publish, giving readers the ability to see how we shape our content and, if they see fit, the opportunity to complain.

“Of course, we always aim for accuracy in what we publish but if a reader has an issue with what we produce, there is the opportunity for them to seek a correction.”

Content Policy - Outlines how Australasian Leisure Management aims to enhance professionalism, communication and understanding within the leisure industry and to promote the economic and social significance of the industry to the widest possible audience.

Editorial Guidelines - Covering our commitment to independence, integrity and responsibility; accuracy; corrections and clarifications; fair and honest dealing and harm and offence.

Complaints Procedure -  Consistent with the principles of the Australian Press Council’s Standards of Practice, this covers the handling of written complaints, whether editorial or non-editorial, received by mail, email or, if specifically identified as such, via comment on the social media sites Facebook and LinkedIn.

Privacy Policy - Information about how we collect and use personal information in accordance with the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 and the GDPR.

Expanding on the publications’ commitment to inform professionals and stakeholders in all areas of the leisure industry, Benton stated “we have always set out to inform and educate about what is best about the leisure industry and its sectors - aquatics, attractions, entertainment, events, fitness, parks, recreation, sport, tourism and venues.

“This industry, which entertains, stimulates and improves the quality of life of its participants is hugely significant both economically and socially and needs a champion.

“At the same time, we do not shy away from scrutiny of the industry – not from seeking sensationalism but so that all involved in the industry can learn and improve.”

Benton also emphasises the importance of Australasian Leisure Management’s independence and impartiality, adding “while we do cover product information we do so not as ‘advertorial’ but again, to inform.”

Having recently passed 10 years of producing its online news in this current format, a massive recent development for the online publication and the industry has Google pick up Australasian Leisure Management on the Google News tab, putting the website alongside aggregated news from mainstream media sources from all over the world.
