Named as one of three finalists for the international awards, along with Madison Square Garden, New York and the O2 Arena in London, the nomination recognises Allphones Arenas as being among the world’s top performing venues.
Welcoming the nomination as recognition of a remarkable 12 months for the Sydney venue, Allphones Arena General Manager Guy Ngata explained that the Allphones Arena has experienced the busiest and most star-studded event calendar of its 14 year history.
Ngata stated “the venue has played host to a plethora of superstar acts including Rihanna, One Direction, Beyoncé, Ricky Martin, Justin Bieber, Muse, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Michael Bublé, Bruno Mars, Keith Urban, Queen + Adam Lambert, Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams.
“Being nominated for the prestigious Billboard Touring Award in the category of Top Arena is testament to the outstanding promoters and hirers here in Australia who keep booking our venue.
“It is also due to the hard work and efforts of the dedicated Allphones Arena team of whom I am very proud and AEG Ogden’s national and international industry networks.
“The 2013/14 year has been our busiest since opening in 1999 with some remarkable headliners paving the way for such a successful year.”
AEG Ogden Chairman and Chief Executive Harvey Lister lauded the Arena's nomination, adding “we are delighted to have Allphones Arena nominated for this very significant award in such illustrious company as London's O2.
“The venue had another magnificent year and this nomination underpins its position as one of the world’s most successful and notable arenas.
“As the flagship arena in the AEG Ogden family of venues, we are very proud of this achievement.”
Established in 2004, the Billboard Touring Conference and Awards is an annual meeting sponsored by Billboard Magazine which also honours the top artists, professionals and venues in the international live entertainment industry.
The Awards will be presented at the Edison Ballroom, New York on 20th November, where one venue will be crowned Top Arena of the Year.
All awards are judged on the period from 1st October 2013 to 30th September 2014.
Owned by the Nine Entertainment Co. and managed by AEG Ogden, Allphones Arena attracts 1 million patrons per year and has consistently ranked in the world’s top performing arenas since 2005.
