read moreNetballers in the Northern Territory are now able to make the most of newly reconstructed netball courts at Alice Springs’ Pat Gallagher Stadium.
The $2.3 million upgrade was made possible with $1 million from the Federal Government, $1 million from Alice Springs Town Council, $250,000 from the Northern Territory Government and $50,000 from the Alice Springs Netball Association.
Welcoming the completion of the project, Alice Springs Mayor, Matt Paterson advised “the completion of this Netball Court Reconstruction project is a huge win for Alice Springs. As an active, sports-loving community, we are thrilled to see projects that enhance our health and wellbeing.
“It’s great to continue to shoot goals with the Australian Government and Northern Territory Government to ensure Alice Springs maintains top notch amenities. Council is committed to continued improvements in quality of life for our town.
“We welcome investment in our thriving community, and will continue to work with other levels of government to increase liveability in our town.”
Mayor Paterson said the outdoor netball courts at the Pat Gallagher Stadium now meet the modern standards for competitive play while enhancing the quality and safety of the facility for the hundreds of people that will use the upgraded courts each year.
The project included the installation of new playing surfaces, lighting, seating for 50 people, two new benches and shade shelters, picnic tables, security fencing and landscaping.
Northern Territory Minister for Sport, Kate Worden added “sport at a grass roots level plays an important role in bringing our communities together as well as improving our health and mental wellbeing.
“The upgrades to the Alice Springs netball courts will not only benefit participants of all ages, but provide greater opportunity for community engagement with the sport through the facility improvements to lighting, shade and seating.”
