AFL players join with VicHealth to promote wellness during Coronavirus shutdown
April 7, 2020

AFL and AFLW players have joined VicHealth in urging Victorians to help curb the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and take care of their mental and physical health through a new video series.

Players Nev Jetta, Katie Brennan, Emma Kearney, Taylor Adams, Angus Brayshaw and Steph Chiocci feature in the videos, offering tips on hygiene, keeping active at home and staying socially connected with friends and family.

North Melbourne Football Club Captain Emma Kearney advised “these are obviously really trying times for our community, so by getting involved in raising awareness around the #stayhome campaign, I feel it is a great way to highlight some really important messages to the community.”

Collingwood vice-captain Taylor Adams added “having teamed up with VicHealth in recent times, I thought this was another great opportunity for me to do my part and help share awareness of what we all need to do, to get through this.”

VicHealth Chief Executive Dr Sandro Demaio says the community must heed the footballers’ important message: ‘Be part of the team, stay home’.

Dr Demaio noted “we know this is an incredibly difficult time for the Victorian community and VicHealth wants to support everyone to get through this period safely, while also taking care of their mental and physical health and wellbeing.

“It’s fantastic to see Australian football icons helping their fans and broader community to unite and follow the crucial health advice from the Victorian Government.

“We want to ensure all Victorians know how important hygiene and social distancing are for slowing the spread of Coronavirus, but also the importance of keeping active and checking in with our family and friends regularly to protect our mental wellbeing.”

VicHealth shares its top 5 tips to reduce your risk and prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19):

  • If you can stay at home – you must stay at home
  • Wash your hands often and properly
  • If you’re unwell do not leave your house
  • Cough and sneeze into a tissue/your elbow and avoid touching your face
  • Practice social distancing – avoid unnecessary travel and crowds, keep 1.5 metre distance from others, don’t shake hands/touch others.
