98 Gym to deliver its signature strength and conditioning training program in Melbourne
January 29, 2022

Having established their signature strength and training program in Sydney, 98 Gym is opening the doors of its new Melbourne studio in Cremorne on 5th February.

Chris Feather and Russell Crowe founded 98 Gym in 2010, and describe their training hub as "a strength and conditioning powerhouse, with an unrivalled offering for those who value performance, hard work and commitment, coupled with a strong and supportive community".

Since it was established 11 years ago, 98 Gym has grown into a triple-location training hub, with a 2,000+ strong community via the 98 Training mobile app.

Training its clients as if they were professional athletes, 98 Gym is all about its community, attracting a wide range of clientele - from professionals and corporates to elite athletes and sports teams.

The classes offer comprehensive, progressive strength and conditioning programming, designed to ensure members continuously improve.

Not your average gym, the 98 Training program is built and rigorously tried and tested by top athletes. Team 98 consists of trainers from an unparalleled variety of backgrounds including former athletes and members of the defence force.

The 98 Gym program has been developed by Head of Strength and Conditioning, Kev Toonen who is also current Head of Strength at NRL’s Sydney Roosters and has 18 years of military experience as former Strength and Conditioning Coach for Special Operations Command. The program is adapted to every fitness level, from professional athletes to first time trainers. 98 Gym have also taken on Travis Touma recently as Program Director. Touma is the new Head of Performance at NRL’s South Sydney Rabbitohs (2022).

At the helm of the Melbourne facility is 98 Gym Founder Chris Feather, former professional rugby league player, alongside personal trainer Matt Chapman, who are excited to be bringing 98’s signature training style to Melbourne.

Feather advised “after building a strong community of members in our Sydney and Bondi gyms, we’re looking forward to seeing our first Melbourne studio in full swing. We’ve already seen the Melbourne community embrace our unique training philosophy via the 98 Training App and look forward to seeing the enthusiasm continue in-studio this December.

“We can’t wait to show Melbourne what we’re all about and helping the local community get the very best out of themselves both in and out of the gym. While our program caters to ‘everyday athletes’, at 98 we train our clients as if they were professional. We attract clients that hold the same values as us - it’s all about integrity, resilience, persistence and hard work, rather than aesthetics and ego.

“We believe if you dedicate yourself to your training, educate yourself and work hard, you’ll perform better in every aspect of your life - physical, cognitive and social.

“At 98, it’s not about being the fittest in the room - it’s about being the most committed. We prefer ‘toughness’ over ‘fitness’, and we focus on the team as a whole, not just the self. We can’t wait to see what Melbourne brings to the table.”

Opening at 31 Cremorne Street, Cremorne on 5th February, 98 Gym will operate to COVIDSafe practices and density limits. The 98 Training mobile app can be downloaded from the app store now for access to the program from home.

In continuing the expansion nationally, 98 Brisbane is set to launch a week later on 12th February bringing the comprehensive, progressive strength and conditioning programming across the eastern seaboard.
