1.1 million fans attend ANZ Stadium events in 2017
July 24, 2017

Capacity crowds for the Arsenal FC blockbusters have put Sydney’s ANZ Stadium on track to post one of its highest attendance years since the 2000 Olympics, with an aggregate annual attendance at the venue in 2017 now standing at 1.17 million.

As football fans flocked to witness Arsenal’s first visit to Australia in 40 years, a total of 163,652 fans attended the Arsenal v Sydney FC (80,432) game and Arsenal v Western Sydney Wanderers (83,221).

The massive Arsenal In Sydney crowds come on the back of a bumper 82,259 for State of Origin II in June, 72,892 for Liverpool v Sydney FC in May, record attendances during the concert season in February-March, and 44,843 for the Western Sydney Wanderers v Sydney FC A-League Derby earlier in the year.

Global superstar Adele’s two sold-out performances in March drew the biggest attendances of the year - a phenomenal 98,364 for Concert 2 on Saturday 11th March after 96,364 on Friday 10th March.

The 2016 calendar year aggregate attendance to 17th July at ANZ Stadium stands at a massive 1,171,049.

A grand total of 25,702,732 fans have now passed through the turnstiles of Sydney’s Olympic stadium since it opened in 1999 in the lead-up to the Games.

The 13 biggest events at ANZ Stadium so far in 2017 have been:

98,364: Adele - Live 2017 (Concert 2), Sat 11th March;

Some of the biggest events in 2017 are still to roll out at ANZ Stadium, including:

• Opening Bledisloe Cup Test – Wallabies v All Blacks – on Saturday 18th August;
• NRL Finals in September;
• THE 2017 Telstra Premiership Grand Final on Sunday 1st October;
• MONSTER Jam, Monster Trucks Spectacular, on Saturday 21st October;
• 2017/18 Hyundai A-League Sydney Derby II, Western Sydney Wanderers v Sydney FC, Saturday 9th December;

The highest annual event attendance at ANZ Stadium since the 2000 Olympics was the 1.634 million that was posted in 2013 during a year that featured a British & Irish Lions Rugby Test, two State of Origin games, a Socceroos World Cup qualifier, and a visit by English Premier League giants Manchester United.

Overall, the Sydney Olympic Park precinct will welcome more than 13 million visitors this year.
