Wet’n’Wild launches second Nippers season
Wet’n’Wild Sydney and Surf Life Saving NSW have launched the second season of the Wet’n’Wild Sydney Nippers Club.
Following on from the success and positive community response from the debut season, the Wet’n’Wild Sydney Nippers club is continuing their efforts with 250 children set to participate in the program, which runs from 18th January to 29th March.
More children from the Western Sydney area drown in the ocean than any other area in Australia and the Wet’n’Wild Sydney Nippers Club plays an important part in providing these children with an understanding and knowledge about the importance of water safety in a fun and supervised environment.
Wet’n’Wild Sydney General Manager, Dianne Rigg said Wet’n’Wild Sydney is looking forward to the continuing partnership with Surf Lifesaving NSW.
Rigg explained “we're really excited about partnering with Surf Life Saving NSW for another nippers season at Wet’n’Wild Sydney.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the kids of Western Sydney to get involved and learn about the importance of water safety
“The Wet'n'Wild Sydney Nippers Club, provides a beach within reach for hundreds of kids that live away from the coastline. Kids will learn by participating in games, sports and educational activities, to slowly build confidence in and around the water.”
Along with the increase in numbers and the expansion of age groups to Under 6s and Under 12s at the club, 125 youngsters remains kids on the waiting list to join the action at Wet’n’Wild Sydney Nippers club.
Surf Life Saving NSW Members Services Manager Kate Higginbotham adds “we have more kids being able to participate across different ages in the club and have seen their knowledge and water safety skills grow exponentially.”
The popular Ripper Nipper program specially designed for children with disabilities and additional needs will once again be an important aspect of the upcoming season. Ripper Nippers enjoy the same fun weekly activities as their peers with additional assistance and support provided by an experienced and caring team.
This season there’s a major difference to the club, with all Age Manager positions being filled by parents which is great for the nippers and it creates a more local feel.
Higginbotham concludes “the Wet’n’Wild Sydney Nippers Club is becoming more of a local community initiative with the parents becoming Age Managers and that’s our aim over the next few years.
“We have 30 volunteer Age Managers (who are parents of the children involved). They have completed their Age Manager course which teaches them about their role, how to create a safe environment, growth and development, how children learn, teaching techniques and an overview of the Junior Development program.”
