read moreFollowing a competitive tender process, the preferred alliance team for the design and construction of the Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct is Seymour Whyte Constructions, Civmec Construction & Engineering and Aurecon Australasia - the same contractors behind the landmark Boorloo Bridge project, which has become an iconic feature on Perth's skyline.
The new multi-purpose Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct at Burswood Park is expected to elevate Western Australia's standing as a premier place for sport and entertainment.
The alliance, comprising internationally renowned architects along with Western Australian manufacturers and builders, will be tasked with design, development, site investigations and early works preparation.
The Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct is a key election commitment to realise Burswood's full potential for sport and recreation, creating a true multi-purpose entertainment precinct, delivering benefits for both the local community and everyday park users, as well as boosting the State's capacity to host a range of arts, cultural and sporting events.
It will include a new outdoor amphitheatre with capacity for 15,000 to 20,000 people, complementing nearby existing venues and entertainment infrastructure, such as Optus Stadium, Crown Perth and the surrounds.
Concept development will consider facilities to support live music and sporting events, including an annual Supercars event, cycling criterium racing and paralympic racing. Outside of official events, the precinct will be open to the entire community year-round, as it is now.
A key priority is the enhancement of the local environment through landscape improvements and renewal, including optimising green spaces, precinct connectivity and maximising the river setting.
The preferred alliance, with their construction experience on the new Boorloo Bridge as well as the Matagarup Bridge in the area, will integrate key insights from recent community and stakeholder consultation, which garnered hundreds of ideas, including pop-up events for music, food and wine festivals, space for smaller gigs and local shows, sports such as cycling and roller derby, as well as provision for urban forest development and nature playgrounds.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier Daniel Pastorelli remains as government lead for the project and will chair the Project Steering Committee consisting of members from Transport, Tourism, Venues West and Burswood Park.
Precinct planning and design will begin upon award of the contract, with early works to commence later this year and precinct construction work expected to be complete in 2027.
Further stakeholder and community input will be invited as the design progresses in coming months, and people are encouraged to register for project updates via www.pesp.wa.gov.au/
