Warrnambool’s Lighthouse Theatre reveals major sound upgrade

Warrnambool’s Lighthouse Theatre reveals major sound upgrade
April 30, 2021

A new $250,000 sound system has replaced the 39-year-old set-up installed at Warrnambool’s Lighthouse Theatre.

Replacing a system installed as part of the original Warrnambool Performing Arts Centre, Lighthouse Theatre Manager Xavier Dannock said that the upgrade meant that all acts to grace the venue’s stage would now be heard exactly the way that the performer intends.

Dannock advised “we now have the same style of sound system as some of the largest venues across Australia and the world, including the Sydney Opera House and many major Broadway and West End venues.

“Our patrons will instantly notice the difference. The depth of sound that this new system is able to create and the consistency of its delivery is absolutely world class.

“This system is able to intelligently perform thousands of micro-adjustments per second to make sure that everyone is receiving the same volume, tone and clarity, regardless of whether it’s a spoken word performer or a full-blown orchestra.

“With all performers, but especially with musical performances, it’s really important to make sure that everyone gets the best possible acoustic experience - that’s really why people come to the show.

“We’d reached a point where larger acts were having to bring in their own PA system because what we had just couldn’t handle what they needed it to do.”

The new system is designed and manufactured by world-leading speaker manufacturer d&b audiotechnik and features a fully processed line array, four large 18″ subwoofers above the proscenium and all the required infill speakers.

New digital processing technology intelligently ensures that regardless of the style or type of event, every seat in the theatre has the same acoustic experience while a new Allen & Health dLive mixing console means the theatre is capable of hosting the biggest acts.

With COVID-19 restrictions easing and the Lighthouse Theatre now back to full capacity, additional tickets have been released for upcoming performances, some of which had previously sold out.
