The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with global companies Delaware North, Live Nation and Ticketmaster to work together to improve operations at Perth’ Patersons Stadium, to increase and diversify content at the venue, and to seek the long-term role of operator at the new Perth Stadium.

The WAFC has been Western Australi’s leading stadium operator for more than 25 years, managing the ongoing development of, and daily operations at, Patersons Stadium to deliver great experiences for fans of sports, music and other events.

The WAFC’s stadium operator business provides a secure revenue stream that underpins the development of local football so that Western Australia remains a competitive force in national competitions.

WAFC Chief Executive Gary Walton said that the MOU was a significant step in the formation of a world-class stadium operator team that combines local leadership with global capability.

Walton stated “Patersons Stadium team is rated as one of the best in Australia, winning several national awards in areas like customer service; so forging deeper ties with global partners will help lift our operations to an even higher level.

“It is the WAFC’s prime responsibility to ensure football in Western Australia is protected during a period of dramatic change in the structure of our sport. Focusing on opportunities to improve and grow our stadium operator business is an important part of our approach to safeguarding football’s future by delivering a stadium management service that is competitive with the best in the world.”

The WAFC is already working extensively with Delaware North as it prepares to assume responsibility for all catering operations at Patersons Stadium from the start of 2015. Delaware North is planning a significantly upgraded catering offering at Patersons Stadium, with a focus on international foods that combine with local produce and flavours.

The WAFC has previously signed a separate agreement with Live Nation to prioritise appropriate international and national touring content for Patersons Stadium. Live Nation is the world’s largest live entertainment promoter and gives the WAFC direct access to some of the world’s biggest acts.

Live Nation represents many of the major touring acts that have visited Perth in recent years. Ticketmaster is a long term supplier of services for football, and the deepening of the relationship will enable much greater promotion of Patersons Stadium and events in Australia and overseas. It also ensures the WAFC is involved in the latest developments in ticketing technology, digital marketing and re-selling services.

Delaware North is one of the world’s largest privately owned companies. A Fortune 500 company, after nearly a century in operation it is still owned by the Jacobs family. Delaware North has US$3 billion in earnings per annum and is involved in 200 stadium venues world-wide.

In Australia it is involved in Etihad Stadium, Melbourne; the Sydney Cricket Ground and Melbourne & Olympic Parks.
