read moreThe Victorian Government is ensuring more grassroots football clubs have the facilities they need to cater for the growing demand and as such have announced seven projects that will share in more than $2.6 million from the latest round of the Government’s World Game Facilities Fund.
The Fund provides grants of up to $500,000 to Local Government Authorities and Alpine Resort Boards to deliver lighting, better turf and synthetic pitches, and female friendly change rooms.
Interest in football is already at record levels and is expected to jump further with the Socceroos qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar and Australia co-hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023.
One football club to benefit is the Frankston Pines Soccer Club which will receive $315,000 to deliver lighting upgrades at the reserve. Other funding recipients include Monash City Council for their Tally Ho Reserve Sportsground lighting upgrade and Whittlesea City Council for their Harvest Home Recreation Reserve synthetic pitch redevelopment.
Football Victoria Chief Executive Kimon Taliadoros adds “Football is more than just a game, it breaks down barriers and brings communities together – that’s why we’re delighted to see even more clubs able to meet community demand for football through the latest round of the World Game Facilities Fund.”
The funding is part of more than $1.6 billion invested by the Government in community sport and active recreation infrastructure since 2014.
Victorian Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence notes “Football is only growing in its popularity in Victoria and that’s why we’re investing in community clubs so they can have the best possible pitches and nets.”
