Victorian Government commits $3 million for new Hume Regional Aquatic Centre
The Victorian Government has announced it is to provide $3 million towards Hume City Council's plans to develop the Hume Regional Aquatic and Sport Complex at Craigieburn in Melbournes outer northern suburbs.
Making the funding announcement, Victorian Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty stated "Melbourne's outer north is developing fast and this new centre will go a long way towards ensuring this growing community has the local sport and recreation infrastructure it needs to come together and make a splash while getting fit and healthy.
"The grant will fund a new regional centre that will include a 50 metre indoor pool, warm water pool, learn-to-swim, leisure water and exercise rooms among many other features.
"This facility will provide a safe and welcoming place for people to swim, keep fit and stay active."
The $41 million project also includes other facilities in the surrounding area including an athletics track, sports pavilion, fitness areas, playspace and parkland.
Minister Delahunty added "from dedicated activity spaces to areas for relaxation, the new centre delivers the complete package for this growing community's health and fitness needs.
"By investing in quality multipurpose sport and recreation facilities, we are meeting our commitment to provide better access and more opportunities for people of all abilities to enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle."
Hume City Council has undertaken an extensive public consultation in planning the new facility.
