Tilligerry Aquatic Centre to close for three months for pool upgrade

Tilligerry Aquatic Centre to close for three months for pool upgrade
July 1, 2021

The Tilligerry Aquatic Centre at Mallabula in the NSW Hunter Region is to benefit from a $40,000 upgrade during its winter shutdown.

To be closed between 5th July and 30th September 2021, the pool will be drained so that a new fibreglass lining can be installed to replace the existing vinyl membrane, in order to ensure the long term viability and integrity of the facility.

Patrons will have the option of using season tickets to gain access to either Tomaree or Lakeside centres without cost or having them extended at Tilligerry for time the pool is out of action.

The pool was built 20 years ago after a local committee raised over $100,000 towards the $1,000,000 cost and named ‘The Doreen Bradley Pool’ after the community worker who was a driving force behind the idea.

During pandemic lockdown last year the pool remained open as both the Tomaree and Lakeside facilities were out of action due to technical issues, with regular users of these centres travelled to Mallabula for fitness workouts and squad training.

Looking back in what was described as “a challenging year for the pool”, a spokesperson of the pool’s operators advised “patrons had to book 15 minute time slots and observe strict protocols of social distancing.

“Change rooms were closed and swimmers were limited to three sessions per week.”
